SHORT BIO on Patricia:
I am an artist living in Holyoke, MA, with a studio at the Indian Orchard Mills in Springfield, MA. My main areas of specialization are abstract paintings and works on paper. Inspirations come from psychological states of being, spiritual sources such as specific writings, music, and nature, as well as from my interest in the intersections of science, art, and the metaphysical.
I received my BFA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and my MFA from the College of Art & Architecture at Clemson University in South Carolina. I have been a working artist since 1972 and have also taught college level and community art courses over the last 30+ years. Currently, I am the Gallery Curator for the Western New England College art gallery and teach several art courses there as well.
Movie Night, "Jesus of Montreal"
Friday, March 26, 7:00 pm
Doors open at 6:30 pm
Once a month we present a movie and cartoon. This month we will be showing 'Jesus of Monteal'. The film revolves around a group of actors in Montreal hired by a Roman Catholic site of pilgrimage ("le sanctuaire") to present a Passion play in its gardens, with an actor named Daniel playing the role of Christ. The sanctuary is implied to be Saint Joseph's Oratory (although this organization actually refused permission to film there). However, the actors' interpretation of the life of Jesus is unconventional (including, for example, the statement that the biological father of Jesus was a Roman soldier, who left Palestine shortly afterwards), and although the challenging production becomes the toast of the city, the Roman Catholic Church strongly objects to its Biblical interpretation and forcefully stops the performances. The film is structured so that Daniel's story parallels that of Christ.
Jesus of Montreal won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the 1989 Cannes Film Festival[1] and the Genie Award for Best Canadian Film of 1989. It has twice been placed second on the TIFF List of Canada's Top Ten Films of All Time, and was nominated for the 1989 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Suggested offering: $7.50
This is our third monthly movie night so please join us for another entertaining, thought provoking look at a classic movie that you can share with a fun loving community. Discussion to follow.
